Tack Clamps

Pipesnapper Procedure for “tack on” alignment clamps
Mini 19, Model 25, Model 50:

Initial Set-Up

1. Be sure to match the base plate material selection to the material to be joined.

 

Operation

  1. Set alignment fixture onto pipe, plate or structural member to be joined.

  2. Adjust gap pin to protrude slightly inside bevel edge or until desired weld gap

    dimension is achieved.

  3. Tack weld* alignment fixture base to member being joined on both sides of the base near the gap pin.  

  4. Adjust hardened gripper to align joining member to be welded. **Caution: The

    force generated from the adjustment bolt is multiplied depending on the thread pitch and lubricant. The strength of the tack welds used to hold the tack alignment clamp must be greater than the force needed to align the members to be jointed.

  5. Tack weld*** members to be joined on either side of the gap pin.

  6. Retract gap pin.

  7. Retract hardened gripper.

  8. Break or cut tack welds** holding base to materials being joined.

 

Recommendations

Each Pipesnapper Tack Alignment clamp is designed to temporarily position specific pipe sizes.

 

It may be necessary to adjust the clamp head hardened grippers to match the inherent misalignment and fitting tolerances.

 

It is recommended to tack the clamp base onto one member to be joined then to fine tune the gripper pressure contact to the second member when joining materials with inherent misalignment or varying fitting tolerances.

The Pipesnapper Tack Alignment clamping systems* are designed to temporarily position all types of connections for tack welds. It is not designed to support any of the components being joined.

*Be sure to use proper tack welds set forth by end user welding procedures.

**Be sure to use a secured lanyard attached to the tack alignment clamp to avoid injury.

***Do not tack the gap pin to the weld joint connection.
